Social media has become one of the most powerful marketing tools over the course of the last several years. Though some platforms started for people to share things about day-to-day activities with their friends and family, marketers soon realized that it could be used for so much more. These days it’s nearly impossible to stay in touch with your customers and stay relevant without the help of social media. So be sure to log on and keep posting!

Many people don’t realize how much effort goes into a social media post. While there are billions of social media users, many are not your potential customers. Don’t waste time and resources trying to reach everyone.

You must prioritize your target market to ensure you are reaching the right audience for your business.

Through research, you should identify popular hashtags that are relevant to your industry and determine the right time to post to ensure more people see and engage with it.

The personality of your social media messaging will be what draws customers in.

No one wants to interact with a bot. When people can see a “face” for your company, they will be more inclined to engage with your company. Social media platforms provide many ways for businesses to interact with their customers on a personal level. Humanize your business by using polls, videos, images, quizzes, infographics and keeping your content fresh in your social media campaigns.

Social media can provide a platform for customer support. If you choose to use to it for customer support, it is extremely important to immediately respond to customers and be consistent with posts. People expect immediate responses with social media, so if a customer reaches out to you and they don’t receive a response, they will become extremely frustrated and may steer them away from ever using your product or service again. And worse, they could post negative comments that deter others as well. Customers are more appreciative when they see your company is actively engaging with its audience, listening to them, and kindly addressing comments, questions, and concerns in timely manner. This new level of service is no easy task but it is what people expect.

Whether you are marketing a product or service, social media is the cheapest and most efficient tool available. You can get your message out to the most people for little to no money at all. And when you’re ready to spend more, you can use its powerful targeting capabilities in robust advertising campaigns. To reap the benefits of social media, you must prioritize your target market, engage with your customers, and keep an active social media presence.
